We are literally days away from 2019 and I could not let this year end without sharing my REAL thoughts about the facade people are creating for themselves on social media. I shared a little bit about this awhile back in my post called CHASING SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T EXIST.
It always makes me so sad to hear my friends say they are not happy because they feel like having a “regular” life is not good enough. Everyone does not want to be a Girl Boss, some people are happy enough working their regular 9 to 5 and coming home to relax rather than creating content or answering e-mails from clients. A lot of people are working jobs that they hate, in marriages and relationships with ups and downs, struggling to find balance between being a mother and self care, and figuring out their business as they go. Ya know normal human stuff?
Being an influencer is forcing people to hide their realities and what makes them relatable and highlighting a lifestyle that others will like and admire them for. Meanwhile they on the struggle bus!’'
I do not consider myself an “influencer”, however I do recognize that I’ve created an amazing brand and platform that gives me the opportunity to share the ups and downs of my life and on my own terms. It’s a balance! When I have something to share I share and when I don’t, I take a break until I do. I’m not going to lie, even I have moments when I think it’s becoming too much and question whether I would be more rested and happier without it. Social media makes everything look way more easier, whether it’s being a wife, a mom, a boss, an influencer, a photographer, a blogger, you name it. The truth is….Yes, you can do and be whatever you want BUT this shit is hard! It’s so easy to fall in the trap of wanting to get more followers, more likes, more engagement, and more comments. And Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter make it harder and harder to get your content seen, so people buy likes and followers in order to get their businesses and brands noticed.
It’s becoming harder and harder to tell the real from the fake, because people are using “brands” to sell people dreams or make them feel like their life isn’t good enough. It IS good enough.
I’m not hating though, I’m just saying. Don’t get me wrong, social media is whatever you make of it. There are tons of positives such as the ability to connect with people you probably would never meet in your regular day to day. There are plenty of people who actually use it in a positive way and grow successful business from it.
All I’m saying is DON’T FALL FOR THE TRAP in 2019. You are somebody’s goals and don’t let strangers from social media make you feel less than anything but amazing.
